Has anyone played the original Doom?
On a 486SX with 1MB of RAM and an 8-bit sound card?
With the cheesy MIDI music score in the background?
I have.
If this brings on a wave of nostalgia, read on...
I discovered yesterday that the fans of the Doom series have re-worked the original music score into a full-blown double CD that sounds like its been professionally and painstakingly produced in a studio. These are actual rock bands and DJs and musicians who have infused new life into the MIDI sounds of the original 3D FPS. I wonder if id software would ever consider revamping the original game with today's technology and graphics and special effects. I'd buy it without blinking.
And best of all -- the music is available for free download. By the fans, for the fans. If you liked the Matrix soundtracks, this is something similar, except that it's much more suited to the background of a bloody trek through Mars, not a hip nightclub.
So go grab it at http://doom.ocremix.org/, crank up the volume, and relive the time when you walked through the gates of hell and were the only living thing that made it back out alive.

I was thinking about the next game I wanted to buy. I think I'm going to go and revisit the entire Myst series :)
